Jesus, the Sacrifice

The first article of furniture a Jewish person would have encountered as they entered the Tabernacle courtyard would have been the Altar of Sacrifice. It served as a constant reminder that sin blocked the way to God, and it was so costly that only death could pay the price.

The first covenant was filled with an untold number of sacrifices, but they all pointed ahead to Jesus who would make a final sacrifice for sin through the offering of His own body as a substitute for all those who would come to God through faith in Him.

Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). This week we celebrate the Lamb who turned a cross into an altar (Hebrews 10:10).
