The Ethic of Overcoming Evil
Most people have faced some form of interpersonal conflict in their life. As human beings, we bump into each other all the time and in all kinds of ways.
The question becomes, what do you do in that moment of conflict? What do you do when someone is unwilling to pursue peace? What do you do when a person positions themselves against you as a functional “enemy”?
In this context, the Bible only allows for two kinds of people: neighbors and enemies and it calls on us to love them both. Love of one’s enemies is a uniquely Christian ethic highlighted in the life and death of the Lord Jesus Christ who gave the full measure of sacrifice for those who hated Him. This is one of the hardest aspects of our calling and yet, we are undeniably called to go forth and do likewise.
