Sovereign Mercy

Mercy can be defined as not getting what you deserve. Everyone loves to receive mercy, but not everyone is willing to show it.

As Christians, we ought to be thankful that our God is willing to show mercy, but on what ground does He do so…our merit or His sovereignty? The answer is His sovereignty. He reserves the right to show mercy to those whom He will show mercy to.

That reality has caused some to accuse God of injustice, but if mercy is owed to all, then it is not mercy. It is a right. We must ensure that we have a right view of God and a right view of man. When those two things come into focus, we can both see and appreciate the sovereign mercy of God.
