Jesus, the Bread of Life

Can you picture walking through a bakery? Not only do you see different baked goods that make you want to drool, but the smell of freshly baked bread and other treats can almost be irresistible.

In the Old Testament tabernacle, across from the lampstand was the table of showbread. The table is beautifully handcrafted and covered in gold. On the table were 12 pieces of bread made fresh every week. This bread was laid on the table of showbread as a perpetual offering to the Lord as its fragrance filled the holy place.

But now we see Jesus is the bread of life. At the beginning of John 6 we see Jesus feed the 5000 with bread and by the end of that chapter he is calling himself the Bread of Life who has come down from heaven to give life to all who will accept Him.

The question for us is a simple one to ask, but a difficult one to act upon: What will you do with the bread of life?
